I am currently organising a bash on behalf of my best friend, who also happens to be my ex-boss. We met to discuss details, never my strong point, and I tipped my file notes on to the desk, Sorry, I said, I know I look disorganised, but it'll be all right on the night.

I am a chaotic-organised person. That's why I was happy to get my 2000 copy of The Dodo-Pad diary, which I use at home rather than work, and want to go on about it here.

For a start, it doesn't look tidy, so it doesn't depress me. And it's full of witty little jokes and rhyming bits, so it can take your mind off boring phone calls. We're a working parents plus nanny and two kids household, so there's plenty to keep tabs on and this diary has columns for each of us. We don't stick to them, but we could if we wanted. The bit I like best is that there is a doodle or note space on each week's page so you can scribble away to your heart's content and don't lose all the notes you make when arranging things on the phone.

I think The Dodo-Pad is scrappy and happy - and therefore loveable. In fact, I've even had trouble keeping my mind on this piece because I keep flicking through the pad. So far I've learned a bit about Queen Victoria's pet hates and a rhyme about a shag. Now that's whetted your appetites, hasn't it? Just see the entry for May 1st.
